March 8 International Women's Day:

International Women's Day has been observed since in the early 1900's, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. In the building of the socialist state, the Soviet Union celebrated the contribution of women to society and the day embraced the changing of female roles in society.Women's equality has since then made positive gains but the world is still unequal. International Women's Day celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action. The UN selected theme for International Women's Day is "Inspiring Change" encourages advocacy for women's advancement everywhere in every way. It calls for challenging the status quo for women's equality and vigilance inspiring positive change.

To support our women in Okhaldhunga, Friends of VIN is launching a fundraising campaign with the goal of helping 100 women to start their own micro credit program. By providing the women with greater access to savings and credit, they gain a stronger position in the economic decision making and thereby gain a stronger position in the family and in society as such.
